Stress Management Training Course – 1 Day
We are living through a period of constant change, and many people are experiencing high levels of uncertainty and fear. While some stress can be helpful—it encourages adaptive behaviour and strengthens resilience—too much of it can be overwhelming and damaging to both mental and physical health.
This one-day training session on Stress Management supports individuals in identifying the signs of stress within themselves and others. Participants will be introduced to methods and practical approaches to help manage their stress more successfully.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand what stress is and recognise how it impacts both themselves and others
- Identify the positive and negative effects stress can have
- Learn to manage negative emotional states such as anxiety and nervousness
- Replace unhelpful emotional responses with more constructive behaviours
- Develop healthier physical reactions when under pressure
- Manage high-stress work environments with greater confidence
- Build habits that enable them to handle stress more calmly and effectively
What is Stress Management Training?
This training programme acknowledges that stress is a normal aspect of everyday life and cannot be completely avoided. Rather than attempting to eliminate stress altogether, the aim is to help individuals learn how to manage it by maintaining a healthy balance between its intensity, how long it lasts, and how frequently it occurs. Keeping these elements in balance ensures that stress has a positive rather than negative impact.
Stress can bring about helpful responses—such as tanning from sun exposure or muscle growth from physical exertion. But when stress is too intense or not handled well, it can become harmful. That’s why this course places a strong emphasis on maximising the benefits of stress while avoiding its harmful effects.
The second half of the course focuses on how people react to stress. Often, individuals overreact, which leads to inappropriate and damaging consequences. This programme teaches strategies for processing stress in a constructive and healthy way so that responses remain proportionate and support both mental and physical health.
In essence, this course offers a forward-thinking, proactive approach to stress—empowering participants to manage it in a way that enhances wellbeing and resilience.
Stress Management Training Course Overview
The course begins by stating that stress is an unavoidable part of human life. It is not possible to live completely free of stress, nor would it be healthy to try.
Humans have evolved to respond to stressors through adaptive mechanisms. For instance, the stress from sunlight encourages skin to develop a tan, and the stress placed on muscles during exercise results in strength gains. However, excessive or unmanaged stress can cause serious harm.
The goal is to extract the benefits of stress while shielding ourselves from its harmful side.
We introduce the concept that all stressors are defined by three factors: intensity, duration, and frequency.
• Intensity measures how strong or concentrated the stress is
• Duration refers to how long the stressor lasts
• Frequency is how often the stress occurs
Balancing these three elements allows individuals to stay within the “optimum zone”, where stress is helpful rather than harmful.
The latter part of the course is dedicated to improving how people react to stressful events. Many individuals have unhealthy physical and emotional responses—they overreact, their reactions don’t match the situation, and the result is a negative impact on their health.
Delegates will learn how to improve both their mental and physical reactions so that their responses become suitable, adaptive, and beneficial.
